Ever wonder what goes into the creation and rollout of an Android software update? Well I've got some good news for you, my inquisitive friend, because today HTC has posted a handy infographic that explains the process of updating Android hardware.
The diagram includes the steps for carrier-branded hardware as well as unlocked models and Google Play edition products. Unsurprisingly, the carrier-specific units require the most steps at 12 total, which is the result of HTC working with operators to figure out which apps and modifications need to be included and then actually incorporating those additions. The process of updating an unlocked device requires 9 steps, 1 more than the Google Play edition products, due to HTC's inclusion of its custom Sense user interface.
After going over the general Android update process, HTC touches on the status of the Android 4.4 KitKat updates for the U.S. carrier-branded variants of the One. HTC says that all four models are currently in the "Integration" stage, which is halfway through the process. The Taiwanese company has previously said that those four One models are expected to receive their Android 4.4 updates before the end of January.
This new infographic is the latest step in HTC's recent efforts to keep its customers more in the loop about Android software updates.
