iOS jailbreakers, your day has finally arrived. Three months after Apple rolled iOS 7 out to the public, an untethered jailbreak tool that's compatible with the new operating system has been made available.
The "evasi0n7" tool comes to us from evad3rs, a team that's been responsible for previous jailbreak hacks as well. This new one is compatible with all models of the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini that are running iOS 7 to 7.0.4, and there are downloads available for both Mac OS X and Windows, meaning that everyone can get in on the device-freeing fun.
For those that are new to jailbreaking, this type of hack removes the restrictions of iOS hardware that've been put in place by Apple, allowing users to install apps and other software from sources other than the official App Store. This new "evasi0n7" tool is the first to offer an untethered iOS 7 jailbreak, meaning that those folks that rely on certain jailbreak-only apps finally have the option of moving to iOS 7 while retaining access to Cydia and all of the goodies inside.
The evasi0n7 website says that jailbreaking an iOS device will only take about 5 minutes, and the tool itself looks pretty simple to use. Still, you should follow the steps carefully if you decide to pull the jailbreak trigger and use evasi0n7. It's also worth noting that because this is a new release and it's running on fresh Apple hardware, some jailbreak apps and software may be a little wonky. That ought to change in the coming days, though, as developers and hackers jailbreak their iOS 7-powered hardware and are able to test and update their wares.
Have you ever jailbroken an iOS device before? Will you be using evasi0n7 to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch?
