Today was a big day for mobile fans interested in a Moto X, as it was the second and final day that Motorola gave out promo codes good for $150 off the price a no contract Moto X. Just as with the first giveaway, the bargain-hungry crowd snatched up all of the available codes within 10 minutes or so of the offer going live. This Monday has turned out to be a pretty big deal for existing Moto X owners as well, though, as Motorola has pushed a couple of noteworthy updates to its flagship handset.
First up, Motorola has released an updated version of its Active Display app into the Google Play Store. The new version is 1.00.01 and, as you might've guess from such a small increase in its version number, this update is fairly small. Motorola says that it contains a fix for the one to two second delay that some users saw when swiping up or down to unlock their Active Display. The app is now available for download and is only compatible with select Motorola devices running Android 4.4 KitKat (like the Moto X).
Motorola has also surprised Moto X and Moto G owners today with an updated boot animation for both devices. The new animation is very much in the holiday spirit, showing a snowy town and its animal inhabitants getting ready for the season with scarves, a light-covered cactus and a cozy blanket. Android Central notes that, according to the animation's APK, it'll be available through Jan. 6.
In order to view the festive animation, Moto X owners need to be running Android 4.4 KitKat, while Moto G folk must update their Motorola Boot Services app through the Play Store. If you don't own either device, you can still view the animation in its entirety through the YouTube embed below.
Neither of these updates contain any earth-shattering changes that will totally alter how Moto X or Moto G owners use their phones, but they are nice touches that show that Motorola is paying attention to its hardware and its users. That's exciting for current Moto X and G owners, and I'm sure that anyone that was lucky enough to snag a Moto X discount code is looking forward to the arrival of their new hardware even more now. How many of you either already have a Moto X or Moto G or are planning to buy one of them soon?
