Got an AT&T SIM card inside your mobile device? If so, you'll want to hear about a new agreement that your operator has made. The big blue carrier announced this morning that it's struck a deal with Canadian carrier Rogers that gives its customers access to international 4G LTE roaming while traveling in the Great White North. AT&T says that this makes it the first U.S. carrier with international LTE roaming as part of its stable of plans.
AT&T customers that'd like access to Rogers' LTE network while in Canada can choose from one of three Data Global Add-On packs. The smallest of the group offers 120MB of usage for $30 per month. For customers that are a bit more data-hungry, AT&T also offers a 300MB option for $60 per month and an 800MB bucket for $120 per month. The overage fee for these add-ons is set at $30 for 120MB.
The Rogers LTE network currently covers around 70 percent of Canadians, and the service is expected to grow to a total of 95 new markets this year. While the concept of data roaming is certainly not new, many wireless users in the U.S. have grown accustomed to speedy LTE connectivity, and so I'm sure that there will be quite a few AT&T customers that'll be glad to hear that they can continue to have access to LTE airwaves while trekking through Canada.
