HTC promised earlier this month to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat updates to both the Developer Edition and unlocked HTC One models before the end of November, and it looks like the company has kept its word. HTC just announced that both the Developer Edition and unlocked One variants will begin receiving KitKat today, Nov. 29. Along with a bump up to Android 4.4, HTC has previously said that the updates will bring with them an upgrade to the Sense 5.5 user interface.
Today's updates are rolling out less than a week after the HTC One Google Play edition received its own update to KitKat, which is something that has to make owners of the Developer Edition and unlocked One variants pretty happy. As for the carrier-branded versions of the One, HTC president Jason Mackenzie has previously said that those units will be upgraded to Android 4.4 within 90 days of the end of October. We'll just have to wait and see whether or not that timeframe holds true, especially because those updates involve carrier certification, but I'm sure that HTC is doing all it can to make sure that it beats that self-imposed deadline.
