When Motorola first introduced the Moto X back in August, the company teased that along with the multiple color options that would be available in its Moto Maker customization tool, it also planned to offer back plates made of real wood. Moto hasn't said much about its rollout plans for the Moto X's wooden rears since then, but now it sounds like the premium backsides will be made available in the near future.
According to Reuters reporter Sinead Carew, Motorola is planning to begin sales of the Moto X's wooden rear covers in the "coming weeks." That's still a somewhat vague timeframe, but Carew goes on to say that the covers will be available in time for holiday shopping, meaning that we should see them launch in the next few weeks.
Since Motorola revealed its plans for wooden Moto X rear panels at the device's launch, there are some folks that've been waiting since early August to buy a Moto X so that they can get a unit with a wooden backside. That's why it's good to hear that the wood parts are finally almost here. There are still some details on the wooden backs that are still up in the air, including what kind of a premium that the parts will carry, but a previous leak suggested that buyers could end up paying $50 to add some wood to their custom Moto X.
