Looks like the HTC One Google Play edition isn't the only device being updated to Android 4.4 KitKat today. Google has taken to its official +Android page on Google+ to announce that both the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition handsets are receiving their Android 4.4 updates starting today. That means that owners of the Galaxy S 4 GPe will soon have access to an improved phone app, caller ID, full screen album art on the lock screen and all of the other goodies that Google has wrapped inside the chocolatey treat that is KitKat.
Earlier this year, both the GPe-flavored One and Galaxy S 4 were updated to Android 4.3 around a week or two after it was first introduced by Google. While the two devices have had to wait a tad longer for Android 4.4, the bump up to KitKat is still hitting them in a timely manner, coming hot on the heels of updates for devices like Nexus 7 and Nexus 4. It's good to see Google, HTC and Samsung working to update the GPe phones quickly, and I'm sure that owners of the two handsets are happy to see that their investment in the unlocked phones and trust in the companies that made them are paying off.
If you've got a Google Play edition phone that calls your pocket home, be sure to let us know once Android 4.4 makes its way to you and your device!
