A little over two months after the iPhone 5s officially hit shelves, Apple today began selling an unlocked and SIM-free version of its new handset. The unlocked iPhone 5s is a GSM device that doesn't ship with a SIM card, meaning that buyers will need to get their own nano-SIM for use with this model. Outside of the fact that it comes unlocked out of the box, this iPhone 5s is the same as the GSM iPhone 5s models that Apple has been selling for a couple of months now, meaning that it'll play nicely with both AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S.
As far as pricing goes, the unlocked iPhone 5s is available for $649, $749 or $849 depending on whether you opt for the 16GB, 32GB or 64GB variants. Since it's unlocked and not tied to any carrier, there's no option for subsidized pricing. Most folks that are seriously interested in this unlocked iPhone 5s aren't likely to be deterred by the requirement of full retail pricing, though, as they've probably shelled out hundreds for a no contract device or two in the past.
New orders of the unlocked iPhone 5s are expected to ship in one to two weeks. You can order a unit of your very own by hovering your cursor over the Apple Store link below and clicking down on your mouse button, trackpad or touchscreen.
