Just a few days after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit gave Apple another chance at winning a ban on several Samsung devices, another major event in the legal battle between these two companies has taken place. 

A trial has been taking place over the past week or so to determine how much, if any, Samsung owes to Apple in damages for the patent infringement verdict that was handed down in 2012. The jury in the case decided today that Samsung must pay Apple an additional $290 million. That number is a bit less than the $379 million that Apple had requested and substantially more than the $52 million that Samsung argued that it owed.

Apple gave a statement to AllThingsD regarding the jury's decision, saying that the case has "always been about more than patents and money" to it. The Cupertino firm goes on to say that it's fighting for "innovation and the hard work that goes into inventing products that people love," but that it's still "grateful to the jury for showing Samsung that copying has a cost." Samsung has yet to issue any official response to the ruling, but stay tuned and I'll be sure to update you if it does.
