After leaking out a couple of different times in 2013, the new Newsstand section of Google Play is now officially official. Google announced the new app on its official blog today, revealing the Google Play Newsstand app as the one-stop shop for magazines, newspapers and more on Android phones and tablets.

At launch, Google Play Newsstand is playing host to over 1,900 different publications that users can subscribe to, including both free and paid publications. Some of the content that can be found on Google's Newsstand newspapers like The National Post and The New York Times, magazines such as Game Informer and Forbes, blogs like Apartment Therapy and Saveur Daily and news sites such as ABC News and The Daily Beast.

Google says that many publications offer free trials for those folks that don't want to blindly subscribe to a new periodical. Two other big feature of Newsstand are the ability to bookmark stories for later consumption and support for saving articles and magazines for those times when you're without an Internet connection

Google Play Newsstand will be rolling out as an update to the Google Play Magazines app over the coming days in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Australia. Other countries can download the Play Newsstand app from the Play Store. Oh, and for anyone that's using Google Currents to get their news fix on Android, Google says that you'll be able to move to the Play Newsstand app and have all of your news sources loaded up and ready for reading.
