Following Google's announcement that the Google Play edition of the HTC One will be updated to Android 4.4 "in the coming weeks," HTC has come forward to shed some light on the KitKat update schedule for its other One variants.
HTC president Jason Mackenzie has confirmed to Engadget that the GPe HTC One will be updated to Android 4.4 within the next 15 days. The Developer edition and unlocked HTC One variants will be updated shortly thereafter, receiving their taste of KitKat sometime within the next 30 days. Finally, Mackenzie says that all North American versions of the One will be updated to Android 4.4 within the next 90 days. Oh, and the One max and One mini? HTC is still in the scheduling phase for those updates, but Mackenzie promised that more details would be shared soon.
As far as the updates themselves go, it should come as no surprise that the Google Play edition HTC One will receive a vanilla version of Android 4.4. The other models will be treated to an HTC Sense 5.5-flavored version of KitKat. Mackenzie didn't elaborate on any of the new features that'll be included or how HTC plans to incorporate KitKat-specific features into Sense. Good thing that we won't be waiting long to find out.
Meanwhile, Motorola today also spilled some details on its Android 4.4 update plans. The company's Software Upgrade News page has revealed that the Moto X, Moto X Developer Edition, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini will all be bumped up to KitKat in the future.
Motorola also says that it's still working out its plans for its other devices, and so several of its other products are currently listed as "Future plan coming soon." The list of handsets that fall into that category include the Atrix HD, Photon Q, Electrify M, DROID RAZR HD, DROID RAZR MAXX HD, DROID RAZR M, and DROID RAZR M Developer Edition. Stay tuned and I'll update you with more details on those devices as I get 'em.
