Well, that didn't take long. Just hours after we got our first peek at Samsung's curved-display smartphone, the South Korean firm has officially introduced the device as the Galaxy Round.

The Galaxy Round features a 5.7-inch 1920x1080 Super AMOLED display that curves from left to right. Samsung says that this curved design makes the Galaxy Round comfortable to hold, and the company has also included several unique features that take advantage of the concave screen. One such feature is the "Roll Effect," which allows the user to view information like the date, time, missed calls and battery level when the screen is off and the device is tilted from side to side. The curved display is also said to create a smoother-looking transition when flipping between multiple home screens.

While the Galaxy Round's curvy screen is obviously its main draw, Samsung hasn't skimped when it comes to the rest of the phone's feature set. Under the Round's hood is a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, LTE-Advanced connectivity and a 2800mAh battery. There's also a 13-megapixel camera on the backside of the Round's 7.9mm-thick frame and a 2-megapixel shooter on the front. A combo of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Samsung's custom TouchWiz UI comes preloaded on the device.

So how much does a curvaceous device like the Galaxy Round cost? Samsung says that its latest creation will set buyers back 1.089 million won ($1,014 USD) when it hits Korean carrier SK Telecom on Oct. 10. The Round will initially be available with a Luxury Brown coat of paint, and more color options are in the pipeline. One availability tidbit that's still up in the air is international availability, meaning that if you really need the Galaxy Round and its curves in your life in the near future, you may need to start investigating your import options.
