Remember yesterday when I said that HTC was having a rough 2013? Well it looks like the Taiwanese firm can't catch a break, as a new report suggests that it's having supply issues with its recently-released One mini.
Sources speaking to Reuters claim that HTC has encountered a casing issue with the One mini that's a result of some design difficulties. One tipster added that HTC is having a hard time keeping up with demand for the One mini, even though analysts have estimated that HTC only expects to ship approximately 200,000 units each month. It's said that these One mini woes make it more likely that HTC will post a loss as part of its Q3 2013 results.
This isn't the first time that we've heard rumblings of HTC experiencing supply problems. Before the full-size One officially began arriving on shelves, HTC confirmed that the device was experiencing some delays due to component shortages related to the One's UltraPixel camera and its aluminum casing. Now it sounds like the One mini may be going through some of the same issues, which is hindering HTC's ability to meet demand for the shrunken smartphone and could ultimately have a negative effect on its Q3 2013 numbers.
It's never fun to hear about a manufacturer having supply problems, but today's news is even more disappointing because of the rocky year that HTC has had so far. Here's to hoping that Peter Chou and Co. can get things sorted out quickly and that the upcoming One Max can avoid the supply issues that've plagued its predecessors.
