I know what it's like to get excited for a certain piece of technology. Or, all new technology, I guess. Even if I don't have any interest in buying something, I still get excited about its impending launch. I guess I'm just happy to see cool technology finding its way out into the world, where it can make someone somewhere a happy camper.
All of that changes and gets amplified to some ridiculous degree when it's a device I actually want. A device that I've already been looking forward to for however long. I've always been one to follow along with rumors and speculation, even before I had to, so I've grown accustomed to the weird, self-inflicted trauma that is waiting for something that could take months to finally launch.
The waiting is the hardest part, without a doubt. Waiting is just the worst, especially when we deal with companies who don't seem to mind announcing a device without a release date. It only gets worse when the weeks tick by and turn into months, and we're left staring at our calendars just waiting for the time we can finally buy what we've been wanting so badly for so long.
Though, it could be equally as "bad" as watching an announcement and then having to only wait a week to get the thing you just watched get showcased.
Despite the bi-annual upgrade, there are people who are going to buy the Apple iPhone 5s. It'll happen. And, it will probably happen in droves. A lot of people are going to order or go pick up the iPhone 5s when it becomes available on September 20. Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to be a mad dash to get it, because Apple's not allowing for pre-orders of the device this time around. Essentially, this really is "first come, first served."
In years past, we've seen people line up for the iPhone, sometimes as early as a week in advance. Indeed, there have already been reports of people lining up for the next phone in countries all over the world. People have lined up for other devices, and I've even seen it happen myself, but obviously the iPhone launch usually musters up the most attention.
It'll probably be worse this year, thanks to the lack of a pre-order for the iPhone 5s.
Which is why I'm curious. I've stood in lines before, but never for a phone. I've waited for some video games in the past, and I've weathered the late night sales during the holiday shopping season. I haven't done it in a very long time, but I have to admit that I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to expect, or even consider, waiting in line on September 20 for the next iPhone. I live in a big city, and there are plenty of different AT&T stores out there, so I'm wondering if I will be able to just get away with walking in come launch day.
(If I decide to get the phone at all, mind you.)
Have you ever stood in line for a phone before? Whether it be an iPhone or another phone, have you ever had to brave a line to get your next handset? Are you considering waiting in line for the iPhone 5s? Let me know!
