The wait is finally over. For those who can't wait to see the next iPhone, and for those who just can't wait for the rumors and speculation about the next iPhone to go away. Whichever side you stand when it comes to that particular line, it's good to know that the wait is finally over. Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 5s, and along with it prices and release dates.
We've now all had a couple of days to mull over the details. By now, you've probably read plenty of articles, opinion pieces and editorials about what each detail of the new iPhone 5s means for the market. The new camera system. The new A7 processor. Even the new gold color. Everyone's busy dissecting it, and they will be for at least another week or so.
Hah. Who am I kidding? We'll all be busy comparing and contrasting and poking and prodding for months. I've asked how you'd change HTC's One and LG's G2, so now it's time to talk about Apple's latest gadget.
In any event, the iPhone 5s is real, and we know what it's packing underneath that thin, aluminum hood. We know that Apple thinks the iPhone 5s is the next best thing, probably since sliced bread, and that others out there think it's a huge waste of time. Same situation, different day.
So, let's just bury into it, shall we? Talk about all those things people are dissecting. First and foremost, that 4-inch Retina display, which has a resolution of 640x1136. That marks the pixel per inch count around 326. There isn't a microSD card slot, but you'll get to choose from a 16/32/64GB model. The camera on the back is an 8MP shooter, and the front-facing option is 1.2 megapixels.
The iPhone 5s is running Apple's newest mobile operating system, iOS 7, which is powered by the first-ever 64-bit chip in a smartphone. That processor is clocked at 1.7GHz, and it's of the dual-core variety. It's said to include 2GB of RAM. The battery is still non-removable, and it's measured at 1570mAh.
It will come in Space Grey, white and gold. The camera flash on the back is actually a pair of LEDs: one warm and amber, the other cool and white.
This is the iPhone 5s, in a nutshell. The user experience will depend on the user, but that should be pretty obvious.
The iPhone 5s will be available beginning September 20 on all four major wireless carriers here in the States. It will run you $199 for the 16GB; $299 for the 32GB; and $399 for the 64GB all on contract. You can't pre-order it.
