Looks like Samsung isn't the only mobile company that's announcing a new smartwatch today. Qualcomm has announced its new Toq smartwatch, a piece of wristwear that connects to devices running Android 4.0.3 or higher. Just as one would expect from a smartwatch, the Toq can manage a user's calls, texts, meeting reminders and other notifications, and Qualcomm says that it plans on adding even more features in future software updates.

One of the highlights of the Qualcomm Toq is its Mirasol touchscreen. Qualcomm touts the display as being very low-power, so much so that the screen is always on and the Toq itself doesn't even feature an on/off switch. The unit is said to get "days of battery life" off of a single charge. Once it does need more juice, the Toq can be placed on a wireless charging case that can also provide power to the watch's matching wireless headset.

Qualcomm describes the Toq as a "limited edition smartwatch," telling CNET that it only plans to sell tens of thousands of units as a way to show off what its Mirasol display and other tech can do. It's expected that the Toq will be available in mid-October for around $300.

So far the Toq looks like a pretty interesting smartwatch. Many folks already have to charge a phone, laptop, tablet and possibly an MP3 player or handheld game system, and so the Toq's multi-day battery life and wireless charging make it help to increase its appeal. We'll have to wait until the Toq goes on sale next month to see exactly how it performs and how long it can go without needing more juice, but for now the Toq certainly looks like a device to keep in mind if you're in the market for a smartwatch. A Qualcomm promo video for the Toq can be found below.
