Google today officially introduced Android 4.4 KitKat as the next major version of its mobile operating system. To celebrate, the company put up a video of the Android KitKat statue's unveiling at Google HQ, just like it did when Gingerbread debuted. However, It looks like El Goog may have unintentionally included something else in its clip that may not taste as well as an Android-shaped KitKat bar, but is probably even more exciting for Android fans.

At the 38 second mark in the clip below, we can see a man and woman taking photos of the statue on two rectangular devices. The woman is clearly holding a Nexus 4, but the device in the man's hands is clearly not the N4. It appears to be larger and has horizontal Nexus branding, just like the backside of the new Nexus 7. We can also see what appears to be an LG logo at the bottom of the phone's rear.

Comparing the new Nexus device to the Nexus 4, it appears that the new device is just a tad larger than Google's current Nexus smartphone. The camera on the mystery device looks to be quite a bit larger than the Nexus 4's shooter, and the rear cover of the new unit looks to be made of a Nexus 7-like matte plastic rather than the glass used on the Nexus 4.

While only Google and LG know for sure whether or not this mystery device is a new Nexus smartphone, there is some evidence to suggest that that's the case. The backside of the phone is very reminiscent of the new Nexus 7, complete with horizontal Nexus branding and a large camera in the upper left corner. There's also the recent Nexus 4 price cut, Google's decision not to restock the 8GB Nexus 4 and the impending one-year anniversary of the Nexus 4 announcement, all of which suggest that a new Nexus smartphone is getting close.
