Sony recently posted a trio of teaser images for its upcoming "Honami" smartphone, but now that we're just about a week out from the device's official debut, it looks like the company has decided that it's time to move on to video.
Sony today posted a brief clip to YouTube that shows close-up views of an unidentified smartphone that's likely the Honami. Some of the shots are the same ones that we've already seen in Sony's aforementioned teaser images, but the video does include a nice look at the Honami's dedicated camera key as well. The video ends with the tagline "The best of Sony is about to get better" and the hashtags "#bestofSony" and "#Sept4."
It's also worth noting that the post on Sony's official product blog that contains the new video is titled "3...2....what comes next?" That's likely a hint at the Honami's official name, which is rumored to be the "Xperia Z1." That moniker is supported by an image that's been leaked to Chinese forum Digi-Wo that claims to show dummy models of the Xperia Z (L36h), Xperia Z1 (L39h) and Xperia Z Ultra (XL39h).
The Sony Honami/Xperia Z1 is expected to be the latest in a recent string of camera-focused smartphones, or cameraphones, with rumors suggesting that it'll pack a 20-megapixel rear shooter with plenty of bells and whistles. Also rumored to be included is a 5-inch 1080p display and quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, which makes the Honami sound like a respectable 2013 Android flagship. Now we just have to wait and see how the whole package performs together and what kind of images that 20-megapixel sensor can churn out.
