Motorola Skip for Moto X appears as wearable accessory that unlocks the phone by tapping against it

Planning on picking up a shiny new Moto X when it goes on sale in the near future? If so, you may be interested in a new accessory that has appeared on Motorola's site.

Dubbed the "Motorola Skip," the product is described as something that Moto X owners can use to "unlock [their] phone with a single tap." Details on the Skip are still light right now, but we do know that it's a wearable gadget that's priced at $19.99, and an official support document says that users will need to enable NFC on their Moto X in order for Skip to work.

The Motorola Skip may sound like a crazy and unnecessary add-on, but Droid-Life suggests that one purpose of the Skip may be to enable Moto X owners that use a lock screen passcode to bypass their security when taking the phone out of their pocket. That would save a little time and effort when users want to check their Moto X while also enabling them to still have some lock screen protection to keep others out of the device.

For now we'll have wait for Motorola to shed more light on the Skip and its capabilities. Thankfully, the Moto X is expected to begin rolling out in late August, so it shouldn't be too long before Motorola begins opening up more about its device and the various accessories that it'll sell.
