Hot on the heels of a rumor that claimed that Motorola may be hard at work on a Nexus smartphone, a new report claims to have information on a different manufacturer that's prepping another new Nexus tablet to follow the recently-refreshed Nexus 7. According to multiple sources speaking to Geek.com's Russell Holly, ASUS will be the manufacturer behind a new version of the Nexus 10 that will go on sale in time for the holidays. Details on the device itself are light, but it's expected that the tablet will still carry the name "Nexus 10" once it hits shelves.
While Holly doesn't offer up any concrete evidence to back up his claims, he has had a pretty good track record with Android leaks in recent months, correctly predicting the arrival of both the Google Play edition HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 devices. Obviously this is still a rumor for now, but we've already seen Google tap ASUS for two Nexus tablets, and so it's certainly possible that Google could've decided to invite ASUS to give the 10-inch Nexus tablet a go as well.
The original Nexus 10 debuted in October 2012 with a 10-inch 2560x1600 display. Because that screen was one of the highlight features of the larger Nexus tablet, and because the new Nexus 7 has a pretty high-res screen of its own, it wouldn't be a surprise to see this refreshed Nexus 10 continue the high-res trend.
It's worth noting that today's report goes against a previous rumor that said that Samsung will be behind a new Nexus 10 model. We'll just have to wait and see which one turns out to be accurate, but with reports earlier this year saying that Google could be growing uneasy with Samsung's Android success, perhaps Google decided to switch Nexus 10 duties to its other established Nexus partner. UPDATE: Now Geek.com has shared an image of an inventory screen from an unnamed retailer that clearly shows "NEXUS 10 16G" as the model, "GOOGLE NEXUS 10" as the description and "ASUS" as the brand.
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal's Amir Efrati, source of the Samsung-made new Nexus 10 rumor, has sent out a tweet explaining that his original tweet meant that Samsung was the manufacturer of the existing Nexus 10 and that Sundar Pichai didn't clarify which company would be behind the new model. Looks like this ASUS Nexus 10 rumor just got a lot more serious.
