A little under a week after Google first announced Android Device Manager, it appears that the web version of the new tool has come to life. Android device owners can now point their browser to android.com/devicemanager to locate their registered hardware on a map and make it ring, even if its on silent. In addition to providing location info, the Android Device Manager shows when the lost phone or tablet was first registered and when it was last used.
Should a user be unable to recover a lost or stolen device, the Android Device Manager can securely wipe all of the data that's stored on it. While this tool certainly isn't the first of its kind in mobile or even on Android, it's good to see Google finally rolling out an official, easy way for users to locate their lost Android hardware and wipe it clean if necessary. The web version of Android Device Manager looks clean and simple to use, and now that it's officially gone live, it may not be a bad idea for anyone that owns some Android hardware to add the page to their bookmarks.
