Remember that rumored Nokia phone/tablet hybrid device that we got wind of earlier this year? A part that may very well belong to that device has just leaked out, and if the photo is the real deal, it looks like Nokia adhered to the "go big or go home" mentality while designing its new giganto-phone.
An image posted to Chinese microblogging service Sina Weibo by "C Technology" claims to show the front panel of a new Nokia device with a screen that would measure 6 inches in size. The part that's show features Nokia branding and a hole for an earpiece up top, and at the bottom of the panel we can faintly see the usual trio of Windows Phone navigation buttons.
While it remains to be seen if this part is intended for a real Nokia product, The Verge claims that the Finnish firm does indeed have a 6-inch device in testing. Microsoft is reportedly planning to include support for displays that measure 5 inches and higher in its upcoming Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update, along with support for 1080p displays and quad-core processors. Those latter two features seem like natural fits for a device with a 6-inch screen, and so it's possible that Nokia could include them on its rumored Galaxy Note competitor.
Nokia has been responsible for some of the largest Windows Phone 8 devices released to date, including the new 4.7-inch Lumia 625, suggesting that the company isn't afraid to make a big device. Since the GDR3 update is expected to bring with it support for displays that are 5 inches and larger, Nokia could see it as an opportunity to really go all-out and offer a device with a 6-inch display, just like several recent Android phones that've been making people talk and pockets tremble in the Android world. The GDR3 update is expected to arrive later in 2013.
