Geeksphone began selling its Keon and Peak Firefox OS handsets to developers earlier this year, giving devs that were interested in working with Mozilla's mobile platform a way to get in on it early. Today Geeksphone began teasing its next Firefox OS-powered device, and now that the platform has launched to the public, it looks like Geeksphone is ready to do the same.
Geeksphone has revealed that it's working on a new Firefox OS smartphone known as the Peak+, an upgraded version of its original Peak developer device that will include "new hardware features." The firm hasn't said exactly which parts of the Peak+ will be improved, but it does promise that it's been listening to the feedback provided by its community of users. One feature that Geeksphone did confirm is that it will offer 25GB of cloud storage to its new users so that they can sync data with other hardware over the web.
The Peak+'s feature set isn't the only aspect of the device that's up in the air right now, as Geeksphone hasn't said much about its launch plans for the device either. The company does say that it plans to open up a reservation list for the Peak+ in the coming days, though, adding that anyone that signs up will receive their unit at a promotional price. The sign-up list will be available in Geeksphone's online shop.
The original Geeksphone Peak was a mid-range device, sporting a spec list that included a 4.3-inch 960x540 touchscreen, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 4GB of storage, and 512MB RAM. While we don't yet know exactly which parts of that list will be upgraded with the Peak+, the first Peak is higher-end than the current consumer-facing Firefox OS hardware, and so the Peak+ is likely to become one of the highest-specced Firefox OS devices available once it's released. Now we just have to wait for Geeksphone to let us know exactly when that'll happen.
