After originally debuting at CES and then taking a role in "Iron Man 3," it looks like the Alcatel One Touch Idol has finally touched down on store shelves. Alcatel announced today that the One Touch Idol is now available for pre-order direct from its online store, with pricing set at $299.99. In exchange for their hard-earned cash, buyers will get an unlocked GSM handset that includes GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz and UMTS 850/1900MHz support. That means that the One Touch Idol will work with AT&T and T-Mobile, though T-Mo users will need to be in an area where the magenta carrier's refarmed 1900MHz HSPA network is live in order to get 3G service.
Also included with the One Touch Idol is a 4.7-inch qHD (960x540) IPS touchscreen, 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 1GHz dual-core processor, 4GB built-in storage, microSD card slot and 512MB RAM. The handset runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and features an 1,800mAh battery that powers the whole package.
While the One Touch Idol's spec list may not impress Android users that like to live on the bleeding edge, the device's $299.99 price tag could make it a worthwhile option for anyone interested in an affordable smartphone. It's also got a 4.7-inch display that'll appeal to fans of the big-screen smartphone trend that we've been seeing lately and a design that's not too shabby-looking. Alcatel says that pre-orders for the One Touch Idol are expected to ship out on June 15, so if you'd like to guarantee yourself a unit now, you can find the "Add to Cart" button awaiting your click at the link below.
