Samsung Galaxy S 4 mini 'likely' to be unveiled at June 20 event, report claims

Following the emergence of a couple of leaked photo sets, the Galaxy S 4 mini made an appearance on the website of Samsung's official app storefront this past weekend. That's not quite an official announcement of the device, but it's pretty darn close. The good news is that, according to a new report, the formal unveiling of the Galaxy S 4 mini isn't too far off.

The Wall Street Journal claims to have been told by "a person with knowledge of the matter" that Samsung is "likely" to introduce the Galaxy S 4 mini at its June 20 event in London. Samsung has teased that new products from both its Android-powered Galaxy line and its Windows-equipped ATIV family will be shown at the event, and so if today's rumor holds true, the Galaxy S 4 mini will be one of several devices shown at the shindig.

As its name suggests, the Galaxy S 4 mini is expected to be a shrunken down version of the Galaxy S 4, much like the Galaxy S III mini was to the Galaxy S III. The new Galaxy S 4 mini is expected to be a fairly mid-range offering in terms of features, with a 4.3-inch 960x540 touchscreen, 1.6GHz quad-core processor and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. If the rumors hold true, it sounds like the folks that have been hoping for a straight-up smaller Galaxy S 4 with the original model's high-end specs will be disappointed again. For anyone that doesn't mind trading in specs for a smaller size, though, the Galaxy S 4 mini could be a nice (and likely more affordable) alternative to the Galaxy S 4.
