Following some rumblings about a "Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active" earlier this month, some images that purportedly show the unannounced device in the wild have made their way online. Tipped to feature the model number GT-I9295, the Galaxy S 4 Active is expected to be a ruggedized version of the Galaxy S 4 that is resistant to both dust and water.

The device shown in the images, which have been posted by GSM Arena, show a Samsung-branded handset that does look quite a bit like the Galaxy S 4. Instead of a physical home button that's flanked by capacitive menu and back keys, though, this device has three hardware buttons at the bottom of its face. Flipping the Galaxy S 4 Active around reveals four screws on its backside as well as a bright orange rear cover. SamMobile claims that this is the "Orange Flare" version, adding that a "Dive Blue" variant is also on the way.

When it comes to hardware specs, some benchmark results show that the device in these images is sporting a 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and a display with a resolution of 1920x1080. We can also see a large camera on the Galaxy S 4 Active's backside that looks fairly similar to the 13-megapixel shooter found on the regular Galaxy S 4.

Samsung has yet to make any sort of announcement about a ruggedized version of the Galaxy S 4. However, the rumor mill has suggested that the Galaxy S 4 Active could launch in July, with AT&T being named as one of the device's potential carriers. While we've certainly seen a number of rugged Android smartphones in the past, those devices don't typically feature high-end specs like the ones that are allegedly included with the Galaxy S 4 Active. That combination of ruggedness and high-end hardware could make the Galaxy S 4 Active an attractive device for anyone that's in the hunt for a phone that can take a beating.

Keeping up with the Samsung leaks, an update to Samsung's own WatchON app seems to have prematurely outed some of the company's upcoming products. SamMobile has found that, at the bottom of the changelog for the WatchON app's most recent update, there's an entry that says that the app now supports the "upcoming S4 Mega, S4 mini and S4 Active." We already know about the Galaxy S 4 mini and Galaxy S 4 Active, but the "S4 Mega" is a new name. It's possible that this is just a typo that's actually in reference to the Galaxy Mega, but it's tough to know for sure right now.
