Verizon recently announced that it's making some changes to its prepaid smartphone plans that are sure to please those with an appetite for megabytes. The big red carrier is increasing the data allotment of its two smartphone-specific prepaid plans, bumping the $60 offering from 500MB up to 2GB and the $70 plan from 2GB to 4GB. Both plans also include unlimited talk and text. Verizon says that existing customers will be treated to the larger data allowances immediately, but any new customers will need to wait until June 6 to gain access to the bigger data buckets.
One thing that hasn't changed about Verizon's prepaid smartphone offerings are their 3G-only restriction, meaning that any consumers that can't live without a 4G LTE connection needn't apply. The news of these expanded data allotments is pretty awesome for anyone that's ok with sticking to Verizon's 3G network, though, and it's good to see Big Red showing some love to the prepaid crowd and improving its rate plans.
