The Galaxy S III has been a big device for Samsung, with the company announcing earlier this year that it had moved over 50 million units of its then-flagship smartphone. The title of "Samsung flagship" was recently transferred to the Galaxy S 4, though, and it appears that the title of "sales king" will soon do the same.
Speaking to the Korea Times, Samsung co-CEO J.K. Shin said that sales of the Galaxy S 4 are on track to pass the 10 million mark next week. "It is selling much faster than the previous model S3," Shin added, explaining that the Galaxy S III took 50 days to accumulate sales of 10 million units. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S 4 will be Samsung's first device to move 10 million units less than a month after launch.
Shin's statement echoes one that came from an unnamed Samsung executive earlier this week, which said that the Galaxy S 4 has shipped more than 6 million units and that it's expected to cross the 10 million mark by the end of May. However, that exec also referred to units shipped, while Shin's quote uses the word "sales." It's possible that Shin is referring to shipments of the device as well, as we've seen Samsung both terms in the past. Whatever the case, it's clear that the Galaxy S 4 is doing pretty well for Samsung, and it'll be interesting to see exactly how many units Samsung can move during the GS4's life.
Meanwhile, in another part of Samsung Land, one of the company's upcoming tablets has purportedly leaked. The folks over at SamMobile claim to have gotten hold of an image of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 that shows a device with looks that are similar to Samsung's other recent tablet efforts, but with slightly thinner bezels. Here are the specs that this 8-inch slate reportedly packs:
It's worth noting that the image of the device is a little strange in that the top of the display outline and the top of the screen mockup don't appear to line up. Even if this image does raise some eyebrows, we've heard rumors in the past suggest that an 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3 is on the way, with a launch slated for as early as June. The device would likely serve as a slightly cheaper alternative to the Galaxy Note 8.0. Does this rumored 8-inch tablet sound like something that you might open your wallet for?
