Sony has previously said that its Xperia Tablet Z will officially launch in the U.S. in May, but it looks like any customers that are interested in snagging a unit to call their own can do so a few days early. The official online Sony Store is now accepting pre-orders for both the 16GB and 32GB versions of the Xperia Tablet Z, which are priced at $499.99 and $599.99, respectively. The 16GB version is being offered in black only, while the 32GB model is available in either black or white versions. Customers that opt for the 32GB white model will also receive a charging cradle with their purchase.
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z packs a 10.1-inch 1920x1200 Reality Display and 2-megapixel camera on its face, and around back is an 8-megapixel shooter. Buried inside the Xperia Tablet Z's 6.9mm-thick body is a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, microSD slot and NFC connectivity. Sony has also crammed in an IR remote as well resistance to dust and water. Rounding out the Xperia Tablet Z's feature list is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, though Sony has said that it plans to roll out an update to Android 4.2 after launch.
Sony hasn't yet announced a specific U.S. launch date for the Xperia Tablet Z, revealing only the aforementioned "May" timeframe so far. The company's online store estimates that pre-ordered units will ship out on May 24, though, so anyone that pulls the trigger on an Xperia Tablet Z today may have to wait a little under a month before they'll actually get to play with their new gadget.
