One of the first things that came up after the official Facebook Home announcement earlier this month is whether or not Home would be coming to mobile platforms other than Android. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg didn't have anything definite to reveal at the time, saying only that an iOS version would require a "partnership" with Apple due to the "closed" nature of that platform and the deep integration that Home requires. Zuckerberg went on to describe Microsoft's Windows Phone as being "somewhere in between" Android and iOS in terms of openness.

Fast-forward to today and Facebook Home is available to select Android hardware, but there's still no word on whether or not Home will be released on other platforms. It sounds like Facebook is at least interested in constructing a Home for Apple and Microsoft, though, as Facebook product director Adam Mosseri revealed to Bloomberg today that his company is currently holding talks with both companies about bringing Home to their mobile OSes. Mosseri explained that Facebook has "shown them what [its] built" and is currently having ongoing talks with both Apple and Microsoft on the subject of Home.

Speaking specifically about iOS, Mosseri noted that Facebook would have to make whatever tweaks to Home that Apple may request, saying that Facebook could end up just bringing "some of the design values" or "just the lock screen" to an iOS app. As a result, Mosseri said any version of Home that ends up hitting iOS may go by a completely different name.

Given Android's tweakability and the fact that it holds over half of the U.S. smartphone market share, it's no surprise that Facebook chose Google's green robot as the first home for Home. iOS controls a sizable slice of the U.S. market share as well, though, and Windows Phone has its own piece of the market. Since Facebook is wants to get as many folks to use its services (and maybe view a few ads) as possible, it makes sense that the company would like to get Home on more platforms. It remains to be seen what other versions of Home could look like, if they're released at all, but I'm sure Facebook wouldn't mind making a few alterations for Apple and Microsoft. UPDATE: The Next Web reports that it's been told by a source inside Facebook that while the company has good relationships with both Apple and Microsoft, no talks have taken place regarding a port of Home for iOS or Windows Phone.
