It's that time of the month, friends! Google has once again updated its Android version distribution stats, revealing which desserts were present on the Android hardware that accessed Google Play in the two week period ending on March 4. Android 4.1/4.2 has once again shown a bit of growth, moving from 13.6 percent last month to finish at 16.5 percent this month, meaning that Jelly Bean is now present on nearly one-fifth of Android devices. Meanwhile, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich dropped a tiny bit from last month, going from 29 percent to 28.6 percent.
Dropping down into the pre-4.0 versions of Android, we can see that version 3.1/3.2 Honeycomb also dropped slightly from 1.3 percent last month to 1.2 percent this month. Android 2.3 Gingerbread has once again earned the titled of "Top Dessert," but the descent that's been going on for a few months now continues, as Gingerbread dropped from a 45.6 percent share of the Android pie in February to a 44.2 percent share in March. Rounding out the list is Android 2.2 Froyo at 7.6 percent, Android 2.1 Eclair at 1.9 percent and Android 1.6 Donut holding strong at 0.2 percent.
Overall, these stats aren't terribly different from the figures that we saw last month. Jelly Bean is steadily gaining ground on Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread in the Great Android Dessert Race, though, as devices like the Motorola Electrify M get updated and handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II continue to sell with JB preinstalled. Expect this trend to continue in the coming months, especially as high-profile devices like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S IV come to market with Jelly Bean in tow.
