T-Mobile launched the Huawei-made Prism last year with pricing set at $19.99 on-contract and $149.99 without a commitment, making the Android 2.3 device an affordable option for customers shopping for a new smartphone that wouldn't make their wallet shout "Uncle!" Now it looks like T-Mobile is prepping a successor to the Prism, and if its rumored spec sheet holds true, it should also be a pretty budget-friendly device.
An image of the T-Mobile Prism II has been posted to Twitter by @evleaks, revealing a handset that looks similar to the original Prism but with an updated set of three capacitive navigation keys. Once again made by Huawei, the Prism II is said to feature an HVGA (480x320) display resolution, 1GHz processor and Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. Searching for the device's model number (Huawei U8686) yielded a GLBenchmark entry that backs up the Prism II's rumored spec list.
There's no word yet on when the T-Mobile Prism II might launch or how much it'll cost when it does. As I mentioned before, though, the original Prism's price tag combined with the Prism II's purported specs suggest that this new unit will be easy on the wallet whenever it does launch. While the Prism II won't draw anyone away from a high-end device like the HTC One or Samsung Galaxy Note II, it looks like it could be a nice option for folks that want a new smartphone but can't afford to pony up $200 or $300 for it. That'll be especially true if the Prism II does indeed come to market with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, which is still a fairly recent version of Google's mobile operating system.
