Earlier I noted that the Samsung Galaxy S IV has managed to mostly avoid the leaky spotlight in the weeks and months leading up to its official debut, but it looks like that may have changed tonight. Two images purportedly showing renders of the Galaxy S IV have been posted to Twitter by @evleaks, an account that's been responsible for a fair share of accurate image leaks in the past. The shots depict a device that's squarer than the Galaxy S III but still with rounded corners, looking a bit like a bigger version of the Galaxy S II. Interestingly, the device shown in the images features no physical home button, which would be a first for Samsung's Galaxy S series, though it's entirely possible that we're just looking at a placeholder.
The second image posted tonight contains a few purported spec details for the new Galaxy S family member. Included in the list is a full HD Super AMOLED display, 13-megapixel camera with LED flash, 16GB/32GB/64GB built-in storage options, 2GB RAM and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. We can also see a second camera on the front of the device.
As is always the case with images of leaked devices, it's worth taking these shots with a grain or two of your favorite salt. After all, we already know that Samsung went to extreme lengths to keep the Galaxy S III a secret before its debut, and that's likely the case with the Galaxy S IV as well. The fact that the unit is lacking a physical home button, which is one of the features that Samsung's Galaxy products have become known for, also raises an eyebrow. As I noted earlier, though, it's also possible that the white object in these images is simply a placeholder image. Good thing we've only got 10 more days before we get to see the Galaxy S IV in the flesh. What do you all make of these leaked images? Think they're the real deal?
UPDATE: Sorry folks, but it turns out that these images actually originated from a page on the website of retailer Expansys. We can also see that both of the @evleaks tweets containing the images have been deleted. At least we're now just nine days away from the unveiling of the real Galaxy S IV, right?
