Smartphones seem to be getting bigger and bigger lately. First we got the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note, which was followed up by the Galaxy Note II and its 5.5-inch display, and then Huawei topped them both with the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate at CES earlier this month. A new image posted to Chinese forum Digi-wo suggests that Sony could one-up both companies, though, showing a component for a 6.44-inch display. Not much is known about the part or what it might belong to, but we can see a Sony logo up top next to a cutout for a front-facing camera. It's suggested that whatever display would be housed underneath would be of the 1080p variety.
Since there's no actual smartphone attached to this part, it's not known what kind of device we might ultimately see this 6.44-inch display on. Sony has opted for on-screen navigation keys on its recent Android smartphones, though, so the large size of this display combined with the lack of any keys built into the component itself suggests that this part is bound for an Android product (if it ends up on an actual device at all). That's all we've got for now, so until Sony makes an official announcement or more details on this phone leak out, we'll just have to stare at this image and start shopping for some pants with bigger pockets. Would any of you be interested in a Sony smartphone with a 6.44-inch display?
