Huawei is set to unveil its Ascend Mate smartphone and its 6.1-inch 1080p display at CES next month, but big phone lovers needn't worry that long to get another look at the device. After a Huawei executive briefly teased the Ascend Mate to some shoppers last week, some new photos have surfaced showing the Mate casually lounging in the wild next to its Ascend D2 brother. The shots, posted by MyDrivers, show several close-ups of the Mate's exterior, including a headphone jack and what appears to be a SIM slot up top and a micro-USB port on its bottom.
With its 6.1-inch display, the Ascend Mate is set to become one of the largest members of the rapidly-growing phone/tablet hybrid category of devices. The Ascend Mate is expected to include several other high-end specs to go along with its large, high-res display, including a 1.8GHz quad-core processor and 4,000mAh battery. For many, though, the main focus of the Ascend Mate will likely be its 6.1-inch screen. That display size isn't likely to change the mind of anyone that's shunned previous phablet-style devices, but it could be enticing to folks that've gotten accustomed to the 5-inch-plus screens of existing handsets. We'll be live on the ground at CES, so keep it locked to PhoneDog for more on this giganto-phone as we get it!
