ChatON was originally introduced by Samsung in August 2011 as a new messaging service that could be used on multiple platforms, including Android, iOS and on feature phones. ChatON hit a milestone today, as Samsung has announced version 2.0 of its service. Users of ChatON 2.0 can associate up to five devices with a single Samsung account, allowing them to retrieve their buddy/chat lists and receive messages on all of their devices simultaneously, including on a web browser at ChatON.com. Also included is the ability to post up to 50 profile images to a user's "My Page" area. Once on a friend's My Page, users can comment on status updates. Other new features include the ability to change font styles and send up to 10 images at once.
This new update Samsung's ChatON service sounds pretty worthwhile, especially the new multiscreen feature that allows users to sign in on multiple devices and receive new messages on all of them. That means that they're likely to have a ChatON-enabled device within reach at just about any time. Samsung says that ChatON is now available in over 200 countries and 60 languages, and there's a ChatON app available for Android, Bada, BlackBerry, iOS and feature phones. The updated ChatON 2.0 app is now available for download in the Google Play Store, but the iOS App Store, BlackBerry App World and Samsung Apps store are all showing pre-2.0 versions of the app as of this writing.
