After revealing that it was conducting an internal review into a recently-revealed exploit related to some Exynos processors, Samsung today said that it's aware of the problem and that a fix is coming soon. In a statement sent to Android Central, the company explained that the problem can be caused when a malicious app is run on one of the affected devices, adding that "most devices operating credible and authenticated applications" will not be affected. Samsung plans to push out a software update to address the vulnerability "as quickly as possible."
Originally found this past weekend, this new Exynos exploit can effect some of Samsung's recent flagship handsets, including the Galaxy Note II and international Galaxy S III. The hole can allow a malicious app to access a user's data and do some other nasty stuff. As we noted before, it's always a good idea to be cautious when downloading new apps, and that's especially true now for owners of devices that can be affected by this exploit. We'll be sure to give you a shout once Samsung's has more information to share on this fix.
