Ting previously promised that customers would be able to bring their own Sprint devices on its service in the fourth quarter of this year, and today the company announced that that feature is now live in public beta. There is currently support for seven devices, including the HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, which Ting says covers around 80 percent of the Sprint devices that consumers said that they'd like to port.
The process to bring a Sprint device onto Ting requires that a device be deactivated before attempting the change. If a customer wants to port a phone number to Ting as well, he or she must do something with that number while converting the phone to a Ting device, such as porting it to Google Voice or an existing Ting product.
For consumers that'd prefer to just pick up a new handset from Ting, the company also provided an update on its hardware offerings today. The Samsung Galaxy Note II is now available for $625 in both gray and white, and the Ting website currently lists both models as shipping in one to two weeks. The LG Optimus G and LG Mach are also available for purchase, with pricing set at $540 and $336, respectively. There are also a few devices currently on sale, with the LG Viper now priced at $274, the black HTC EVO 4G LTE at $444 and the white EVO 4G LTE at $454.
Ting has offered some high-profile Android handsets in the past, including the Samsung Galaxy S III, so it's nice to see the operator continue doing so with new hardware like the Galaxy Note II and Optimus G. Meanwhile, the ability for customers to bring a Sprint handset over to Ting is a good feature to offer, and it could help convince some Sprint customers to make the jump once their commitment to the Now Network is up.
