T-Mobile activates its 1900MHz HSPA+ service in 10 new areas

T-Mobile today announced that it's refarmed its 1900MHz network in 10 new markets, allowing customers with compatible unlocked handsets (including the iPhone) to access its HSPA+ service. Included in today's expansion are several major U.S. cities, including Miami, San Francisco and Phoenix. Here's the full list of areas named by T-Mobile:

Central and Southern Arizona

  • Phoenix, including Tempe, Scottsdale, Glendale, Peoria, Paradise Valley, Surprise and Ahwatukee
  • Mesa, including Chandler and Gilbert
  • Tucson, including South Tucson, Marana, and Vail

San Francisco Bay Area

  • Silicon Valley, includingCupertino, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Santa Clara, San Jose
  • Oakland
  • San Francisco

Central Valley, California

  • Stockton
  • Modesto

South Florida

  • Miami, including Coral Gables and Miami Beach
  • Fort Lauderdale, including Hollywood

As I mentioned before, these network enhancements will bring faster network speeds to T-Mobile customers with a 1900MHz-friendly unlocked handset. That includes unlocked AT&T smartphones like the iPhone. This latest 1900MHz HSPA+ expansion comes less than two weeks after the previous one and grows the list of markets with T-Mobile HSPA+ 1900MHz coverage up to 15. The good news for folks in other markets that are hungry for some 1900MHz HSPA+ action is that T-Mobile intends to light up coverage in "multiple additional major metro areas" before the end of 2012. Once we find out what those locations are, we'll give you a shout.
