Many an Android owner are eagerly awaiting the Jelly Bean update for their particular device, and today HTC updated its Android 4.1 Frequent Asked Questions page with a bit more information on its plans for JB updates. HTC has already confirmed that both the One S and One X will be bumped up to Android 4.1, and while the company isn't quite ready to name more specific products that'll be updated, it does say that it plans to "prioritize review" for its 2012 hardware with its carrier partners around the world. It will then weigh its plans for updating its 2011 devices.
Interestingly, HTC also says that it plans to make generic Jelly Bean development ROMs for both the One X and One S. Those ROMs will be made available for download through HTCdev.com, though it's not yet clear exactly when they'll be released.
As for phones that won't get an Android 4.1 bump, HTC explains that phones with 512MB of RAM or less won't be receiving an update. Two specific handsets that will remain on the version of Android that they're currently on are the HTC One V and HTC Desire C, which is definitely a bummer considering that they were released this year. HTC plans to share more details on products that won't be updated in the future.
When it comes to U.S. carrier-branded devices, AT&T has said that its original One X will be updated to Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 4+, but no timeframe has been given yet. We've yet to hear anything from T-Mobile about the One S's Android 4.1 update. As usual, you can bet that we'll give you a shout once we hear more about HTC's update plans.
