The LG Nexus 4 has been the subject of multiple leaks in the past month or so, but tonight a new report has revealed that one unit was lost in the wild back in September and could've been totally outed before most rumors even started up. According to Wired, a bartender at the 500 Club in San Francisco named Jamin Barton found a phone at closing time last month (sound familiar?). Barton had no idea what it was, and it was left at the bar but wasn't claimed the following day.
After the phone went unclaimed, Baron decided to show it to a friend that said it was likely the Nexus 4. The friend opted to contact Google about the device and was reportedly told that he could be considered an accessory to some sort of crime. Barton eventually tried to arrange a meeting with a Google employee to return the phone, but Brian Katz, global investigations and intelligence manager at Google, wanted the phone right away. Katz ended up getting the Nexus back later that night.
A similar situation involving with Apple and the iPhone 4 occurred a couple of years ago. The then-unannounced iOS handset was left behind in a bar and eventually fell into the hands of Gizmodo, which proceeded to post photos of the handset for all to see. Google lucked out and didn't have that happen with this lost Nexus 4, although as we all know, the device has leaked out several times since then and we're all now fairly familiar with it. The Nexus 4 is likely going to be officially shown off to the public for the first time on Monday at Google's Android-focused event, which we'll be attending.
