Looks like this Monday is shaping up to be a big day for mobile payment services. Today Google announced that MetroPCS now supports Google Wallet, adding that customers with the recently-released Galaxy S III can download the app from the Google Play store. In addition, the official Google Wallet website is now teasing what it calls "the next version of Google Wallet" that is apparently "coming soon." There aren't any details about what's changing, but interested users can request an invitation to the service. After doing so, a page is presented asking which mobile platform you use, with the options being Android, iOS or Other.
While it's a mystery what Google has planned for the next version of Google Wallet, it's interesting to see the company present iOS as an option for users requesting an invite to the new iteration of the service. We'll just have to wait to see if that's just a way for Google to help gauge interest in Wallet or if the company is planning some sort of iOS-friendly version of it. Moving on to things that we do know, it's good to see MetroPCS back Google Wallet, as it opens up the service to more users and means that another carrier is joining the likes of Sprint and U.S. Cellular on the list of carriers that support Wallet.
