Suddenly, we’re awash in Nexus news. It’s great, isn’t it? When it comes to Android, the Nexus name is something to really cherish. Even if, in all honesty, the last model kind of tarnished the whole deal for a little while. Still, the Nexus name is something to look forward to, and this month’s Google event on the 29th is looking to be geared towards making the Nexus fans a very, very happy group.
And it turns out that we are indeed seeing multiple Nexus devices this year, which is great. Or is it?
Unfortunately, the rumor doesn’t look to be lining up with what we’ve heard in the past. As you might recall, we had heard on multiple occasions that we would be seeing multiple Nexus-branded devices, ranging from different manufacturers. Specifically, we all thought we’d be seeing multiple Nexus smartphones. We were under the impression, thanks to the rumors, that we’d be seeing new phones from Samsung, HTC, LG, and maybe even Motorola. Basically, all of the major players in the Android smartphone race would get their time to shine.
As it stands right now, though, we’re looking at only one smartphone, and now a pair of tablets. To be fair, though, one tablet is just the Nexus 7 with more internal memory. Still, it’s a new tablet. The other tablet is the larger 10-inch Nexus tablet that we talked about yesterday, and that has been rumored to exist for quite some time now. That’s said to be manufactured by Samsung, which means that we’re really only looking at one new Nexus manufacturer.
The LG Nexus 4 is also said to be unveiled at this month’s event, which, to me, is stacking up to be the most interesting part of the announcement. Yes, because it’s the first LG Nexus device. That goes a long way, even if we are seeing Samsung still get to launch a Nexus device this year. Which is comical, to me. It also makes me wonder if other manufacturers were vying to be the one that created the Nexus 10, and if Samsung won the bidding war, or if Google just chose them to get it done because the smartphone Nexus went to another company.
As I’ve said in the past, I was looking forward to seeing multiple Nexus devices later this year, but that’s when the rumor was still focused on multiple smartphones. For me, having more Nexus tablets isn’t something that I’m actively looking to see hit the market. Especially not a 10-inch version. But, it looks like Google is content on giving us a new Nexus smartphone, and loading up the market with tablets.
But how do you feel about that? I’m curious to know if the masses would prefer to see multiple Nexus tablets, rather than more than one new Nexus smartphone.
When I think about Google’s event later this month, I smile at the thought of them stepping on stage and unveiling multiple devices. A handset from Motorola, Samsung, HTC, and LG. The Nexus brand, united under one front, and supported by multiple companies. Ah, that would be awesome.
But, we get Samsung again for the new Nexus tablet, and thankfully we have LG trying their hand at the vanilla Android phone. So how will it all go? How will the general consumer react to Google’s new devices? How will you react? Are you looking to replace your current Nexus device? If so, is LG’s effort something that you’re interested in? And would you be willing to buy a Samsung-created Nexus-branded 10-inch tablet? Let me know!
