Sony has been fairly good at keeping us in the loop when it comes to Android updates and which devices will be receiving them, and today the manufacturer has some news to share on the topic of Jelly Bean. In a post on the official Sony Xperia Product Blog, Sony says that its latest models, the Xperia T, TX and V, will all be updated to Android 4.1 starting in mid-Q1 2013. Several other global Xperia models will also see an update to Google's latest version of Android, including the Xperia S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia acro S, Xperia go and Xperia J. Sony says that it'll share more details on specific release timing for those models later on.
Now for the bad news. Sony has revealed that its lineup of 2011 Xperia handsets won't be updated beyond Android 4.0.4, explaining that it wouldn't be able "to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand." It does say that it'll support those models with maintenance updates, though. That news is definitely a bit of a bummer, especially considering that Sony said back in July that it was evaluating the Jelly Bean update for those devices, but at least those owners were recently brought up to a newer version of Ice Cream Sandwich. Once we get more details on the Jelly Bean rollout for devices that will get a taste of Google's latest dessert, we'll give you a shout.
