After having only been on shelves for around a month, Sony has been announced that it's halting sales of the Xperia Tablet S due to a manufacturing issue. It's been discovered that some Xperia Tablet S units have a gap between the display and the case that can leave the slate vulnerable to water damage. One of the features of the Xperia Tablet S is that it's supposed to be splash-proof. Sony hasn't said when it expects sales to resume, but any customers that have already purchased one of the around 100,000 Xperia Tablet S units that have already been shipped can have their machine inspected and repaired for no charge.
Considering that Sony bills the Xperia Tablet S as being splash-proof, it's good to see the company reveal that some units may not be quite as water resistant as they should be and decide to stop sales until the situation is resolved. While it's not yet clear when the Xperia Tablet S will be available again, it's still a relatively new addition to Sony's lineup, so I'm sure that the company would like to get it back on shelves as soon as possible. Once we hear any news of the Xperia Tablet S's return, we'll give you a shout.
