Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update said to be coming in October, international model likely first

Samsung said at an event last month that the Galaxy S III will be updated to Jelly Bean "very soon," and now we've got a slightly better of when that Android 4.1 bump might begin arriving. The company told CNET U.K. that Jelly Bean will start hitting the Galaxy S III "from October." Samsung didn't provide any further details, so it's not clear precisely when in October the push might begin.

The Galaxy S III's flavor of Jelly Bean has already leaked out a couple of times, first getting shown off on video and then surfacing online for all to try, and so far it looks like a mix of TouchWiz and Android 4.1 features such as expandable notifications. Unfortunately for all of the Galaxy S III owners out there, Samsung didn't say which models of the Galaxy S III are expected to receive the official Jelly Bean update in October. However, it seems likely that the international model will be the first in line, while those of us with U.S. carrier-branded models will probably be in for a longer wait. Here's to hoping that Samsung applies its strategy of shortening the time between initial international product announcement and U.S. launch to its software updates.
