One of the big features of the original LG Optimus Vu was the device's 5-inch, 4:3 display. Now it looks like LG has cooked up a new spec to tout for the Vu's successor, as a press release in LG's Korean newsroom talks up the Optimus Vu II and its infrared support. LG explains that the Vu II will use infrared and a Q Remote app to serve as an "all-in-one remote control" that allows it to control devices like set-top boxes, audio gear and air conditioning systems. There aren't many other details about the device available, but it does sound like LG plans to launch the Vu II in Korea as soon as September.

While the Optimus Vu II may not be the first Android device we've ever seen with infrared, it's also not a feature that's terribly common, so it looks like LG could end up touting IR as one of the Vu II's big selling points. It's tough to get much of a feel for the Vu II outside of its infrared support since LG hasn't revealed much else about the device, but judging from the screenshots of the Q Remote release by LG, it doesn't look like the display from the original Vu is going anywhere. With a Korean debut seemingly set for next month, here's to hoping that we'll hear more soon.
