Looks like T-Mobile is in the mood for some tablet-flavored ice cream sandwiches. The Magenta carrier has revealed that Android 4.0 updates for both the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the Huawei-made Springboard will be released this week, with the Tab 7.0 Plus getting its update today and the SpringBoard's rollout starting tomorrow. The Tab 7.0 Plus's update will bump the slate up to Android 4.0.5 (version T869UVLG7) and will only be available through Samsung's Kies PC software. It's worth noting that the update will wipe your Tab 7.0 Plus's home screen layout, so you'd better take down some notes or save some screenshots if you want to restore the layout post-installation.
Meanwhile, the Huawei SpringBoard's update to Ice Cream Sandwich will be available as an over-the-air download, and T-Mobile says that it'll start pushing out on August 15. The update will bump the SpringBoard up to Android 4.0.3 and includes several improvements, such as UI performance enhancements, a fix for an unrecognized SIM card error, power and reboot tweaks, improvements to the device's Wi-Fi connectivity and better memory allocation.
So just how can these updates be installed? Well, Tab 7.0 Plus owners will need to download Kies from Samsung's website if they don't already have it installed on their computer, then they can plug in the Tab 7.0 Plus and get to updating. SpringBoard folk can keep an eye out for an update notification on their devices starting tomorrow. The more impatient SpringBoard users can also manually check for the ICS update by heading into Settings > About tablet > System updates (Google) > Check now. Own either a Tab 7.0 Plus or SpringBoard? Our comments section also doubles as an ICS update celebration area, so you can head on down there and tell us all about your new dessert once it's installed on your tablet of choice.
