It's been a while since the Motorola DROID 4 was treated to a new update, but it looks like Motorola may be planning to change that soon. According to Droid-Life, Motorola has begun inviting DROID 4 users to preview some new software for their device, which is commonly referred to as a soak test. There's no word on when the testing might begin or what exactly this new update might contain. The site also notes that Matt, Motorola's forums manager, recently posted in a "D4 ICS waiting room" thread in Motorola's forums reminding the users to register their DROID 4s and opt-in for the Motorola Feedback Network, which is how users gain access to these update soak tests.
So might this upcoming batch of new software bring Ice Cream Sandwich to the DROID 4? Considering Matt's comment and the fact that Motorola expects the DROID 4's Android 4.0 update to begin rolling out in the third quarter, it's certainly possible. Now DROID 4 owners must wait, either for this update to actually begin pushing out or for a soak test member to leak the details, before we can find out whether the update has Ice Cream Sandwich innards.
