Sprint has announced that it's refreshed the coverage viewer tool on its website, bringing enhancements that'll allow users to view the Now Network's two types of 4G service separately. After selecting the Data tab from the list of options above the map, it's now possible to view both Sprint's WiMAX and LTE coverage or together choose to see just WiMAX or just LTE service. Of course, Sprint's LTE network isn't live just yet, so right now users can only the Now Network's WiMAX coverage. It's also possible for users to select a certain device from Sprint's roster and then view the coverage for that specific device.
The improvements that Sprint's made to its coverage tool seem pretty nice. The ability to view coverage for a specific device should make it easier for prospective customers to see what kind of coverage they'd get with a specific device that they're considering, and current Sprint folk can also check coverage for their area or a new area based on whatever hardware they've already got. However, it's kind of strange to select "Sprint 4G LTE" on the Data tab and then see zero orange markets. Sprint has said that it plans to launch its LTE coverage in Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio by mid-2012. Obviously we're nearing the middle of the year, so here's to hoping it's not much longer before Sprint flips its LTE switch and can place six new markers on its coverage map.
